History of Roo-Lan Healthcare Center
Ever wonder where the name: "Roo-Lan" came from?
In the early 1960's, two men, Mr. Root and Mr. Langdon owned and operated a nursing home on Martin Way. The men took the first three letters of their names to form the word "Roo-Lan".
In the late 1960's, plans were made to build a new nursing care facility on Carpenter Road and was opened October 1st, 1971.
The first administrator was Mr. Walter Klemperer, followed by Mr. George Juhl.
In 1973, Mr. Forrest Curtis became administrator. 1974 saw Roo-Lan Gardens become a skilled nursing facility and Mr. Ward Tappero came in as Assistant Administrator. In an effort to coordinate the name of the business with the philosophy of care, the name was changed to Roo-Lan Healthcare Center in 1978.
August 1st, 1979 Roo-Lan Healthcare Center was leased to Mr. Howard Hoskins and Mr. Ward Tappero became Administrator on November 1st, 1979.
On October 1st, 1985, the stock of Lacey Nursing Center, Inc., doing business as Roo-Lan Healthcare Center was sold to Mr. Craig LeVee, Dr. George Zerr and Mr. Dan Humphrey.
Mr. Craig LeVee and Dr. George Zerr remain the owners to the present time.
In 1998 the first Lodge was built and a year later, Lodge II was built as our Assisted Living buildings. |
